Watch for the
t
harvest moon
on Oct.
4
. This
is the time of
year when the full moon is
nearest the autumnal
equinox. It is known as the
harvest moon because the
early rise of the moon gave
farmers more light to gather
fall crops such as squash.

Dish detergent and water do the trick on aluminum
pieces and acrylic cushions. Use a sponge—a brush or scouring pad can
scratch the finish—then rinse with a hose. If you don’t have room to store
the furniture indoors during the winter, at least bring the cushions inside.
FAMILY HISTORY MONTH
Want to know who to credit for
your quirky traits? Interview your
relatives, says Maira Liriano,
genealogy specialist for the NYC
Public Library. “Stories about
people’s lives offer clues as to who
you are,” she says.
